Postpartum Depression

Understanding Postpartum: Symptoms, Causes, and How Treatment Can Help

What is Postpartum Depression?

Postpartum depression is a type of depression that occurs after childbirth, affecting a mother's ability to care for herself and her baby.

While it's normal to experience mood swings or "baby blues" shortly after delivery, postpartum depression is more intense and long-lasting.

Symptoms may include overwhelming sadness, fatigue, irritability, changes in appetite or sleep, difficulty bonding with the baby, and feelings of guilt or worthlessness.

It can begin within days of delivery or develop weeks or months later. With proper treatment—including medications and support—recovery is possible, and mothers can regain their emotional well-being.
