A Better Path for Teenagers

Every day in Michigan, teens with mental health challenges are overmedicated without a proper psychiatric evaluation. Our children deserve more than a quick prescription—and we’re here to help. We specialize in psychiatric care for high school teens (14–19) with anxiety, depression, ADHD, & mental health challenges that co-occur with ASD

For parents: Why choose a psychiatrist for your teen over any other doctor.

Dr. Jennifer Sam (Board Certified PMHNP, DNP)

I specialize in teen psychiatry of 14-19 high school students and adults.

I provide medication treatment plans for anxiety, depression, suicide ideation, bulimia, heightened social anxiety, ADHD, OCD and trauma.

I have extensive experience in providing psychiatric medication treatment to teens with ASD & Asperger’s (moderate to high functioning), resulting in co-occurring high levels of anxiety & depression.

A bit about my approach to medication treatment plan for teenagers

As a mother of high school teenagers myself, I don't believe that our children need to be overmedicated which is what unfortunately happens when worried parents rush to the doctor and only receive a bottle of pills.

Our kids need a detailed psychological evaluation, a treatment plan and then consistent careful monitoring to ensure that medications are providing the intended benefits to their life. No child should be taking any prescription medication without a psychological evaluation.

What you can expect from my first session with your teenager

In our first 60 minute session with your child, I will dig deep to discover how I can help them. My subsequent follow-up sessions with your child will not be a 5 minute chat to get him a prescription refill but 20-30 minutes sessions to really understand how they are interacting with medications and to make any adjustments as needed.
